Guinea pigs don’t need to be bathed very often because they do not smell bad and can keep themselves clean. However, there will be times when you will need to bathe them, such as when they’re suffering from skin conditions or parasites, or when they’re just plain dirty and smelly! The last is true for Ellie and Freya, so for the weekend I gave them a nice bath!
Bathing Ellie and Freya took quite a while for us to get used to because they’re pretty picky on how they want to be bathed. I used to bathe them in a washing bowl or bath tub, but they’re scared of the water and always run for their lives, as if they just encountered a flash flood. Now, I found that they prefer to be held the whole time, and they like it better when I pour the water on their bodies with my hands. They don’t squirm or fidget at all when I do it that way, so I just bathe them by the sink for easy access to the water and the drain.
Of course I never forget to pay attention to the water temperature! It has to be just right for them.
Freya and Ellie are now nice and clean, and now they’re having a great time in their newly-cleaned cage too! Hope everyone had a great weekend as well!
