I love spending time with Freya and Ellie. Besides the usual health check and daily handling, of course I need to play and hang out with them. After all, they aren’t just meant to stay in their cage; they need to bond with their humans too! Here are some ways of how I spend time with my piggies:
1. Taking cute photos.
This is at the top of my list because it’s my favorite way of spending time with my piggies! I get to capture their cutest moments and bond with them at the same time! It’s easy and you don’t need expensive equipment for this too. Just choose your background, prepare your camera, and bring out some nice props! Examples of good props that will make your photos even cuter are food and toys!
2. Watching TV/movies with them.
Sometimes I just get those lazy days when I just want to lay in bed all day. When that happens, I just turn on my TV or computer and watch whatever I want. But it’s not that easy to stay in bed because Freya and Ellie like to wheek for attention in the afternoons. To ensure that I still get to hang out with them, I just take them out of their cage and let them watch with me.
Freya and Ellie also get to read with me! When I’m studying, they like to peer over my book as if they also understand what I’m reading. I have to be careful when Freya’s around though, since she likes nibbling on my books.
Floortime is an essential part of a guinea pig’s daily routine, so you should make the most out of it. While your piggies are out and about, you can sit or lay down in one corner and wait for them to come to you. You can also arrange some games for your piggies. For example, you can hide some food in their play area and watch them look for it. It’s a fun way to engage them and keep their minds stimulated.
5. Writing blog entries
Wheeky Piggy is a guinea pig blog, and I write most of my entries in the presence of the girls. They keep me inspired and looking at them gives me lots of ideas to write about. I actually created the site with Ellie beside me, as though she was guiding me through the whole process!
