Homemade Carefresh project

I am having a very hard time looking for Carefresh bedding recently. It’s pretty rare in the Philippines since most pet supply stores don’t have it; the only option you have is to buy online. But then, the stores easily run out of stock as well, since it’s a really popular brand and many who have tried it prefer it over wood shavings.

This is actually the reason why I thought of making my own guinea pig bedding myself. Another reason is that Carefresh can be really pricey in the Philippines. I looked up some video tutorials on how to make the bedding and tried it awhile ago! Now, the sample batch still hasn’t dried so I can’t tell yet whether it’s as good as the real Carefresh or not. I’ll keep you guys posted!

For now, here are some photos of what I did in making the homemade bedding:

You can cut the papers any way you want; you can even rip it into pieces!

I soaked the paper in warm water to get the ink out. I am not sure if the temperature matters though!

Still a little damp and doesn't look quite like Carefresh... for now.

If the homemade bedding turns out well, I will post a how-to on how I did it. Till then! 🙂

Oh, that would definitely not work for us. 😀 Spock eats paper. Tho, he prefers unpaid invoices. Our human puts us on urinary inconsistency diapers. I felt humiliated in the beginning, but then I realized it’s fare – we pee quite often.
